Reading the Class Mode
Classes are offered in one of four Modes:
- Fully Online – Asynchronous (online, anytime)
- Fully Online – Synchronous (online, scheduled real-time meetings)
- Partially Online
- In-Person
Asynchronous—Online, Anytime:
Classes will not be meeting in-person or online at a scheduled time. Asynchronous online classes are available any time, 24/7 via Canvas. Interactions with the instructor and other students may take place through discussion boards, group assignments, email, and other means. Prerecorded lectures and/or lecture presentation and notes will be posted to your Canvas course for you to review on your own time. Pay close attention to your course syllabus for assignment deadlines and exam dates.
Synchronous—Real-Time, Online and/or In-Person:
Synchronous classes have scheduled, live meetings to provide simultaneous interaction with the instructor and other students in real time. This can either be online or in-person.
Tips:
- When searching for classes using the online Class Schedule, click on the orange button to see more instructions for the course. Check to see if there are mandatory synchronous, online orientations for the course.
- When searching for classes using eServices, click the blue hyperlink Lecture - # to view the class notes for more instructions for the course.
