The Time is Now to Recognize Black-Serving Institutions

The Los Rios colleges have joined many other California community colleges to support California Senate Bill 1348, which creates a state “Black-Serving Institution” designation. The bill aims to support institutions that serve at least 10 percent (or a minimum of 1,500) Black students with additional resources to meet the needs of our students.

American River College Presidential Transition

Melanie Dixon, the President of ARC, will leave the college at the end of the Fall 2022 semester, after serving in the position since January 2021. Dr. Frank Kobayashi, the college’s Vice President of Instruction, will serve as Interim President, effective January 17, 2023.

Los Rios Colleges Awarded Major Federal Child Care Grants

Three Los Rios colleges have been awarded federal grants to support child care and family services on campus. The multi-year grants will support a variety of campus programs at the colleges’ child development centers.

Intel AI for Workforce Program

Intel is partnering with Folsom Lake College to expand its Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Workforce Program. This national program expansion, which includes a total of 18 community colleges across 11 states, will train and prepare tens of thousands of students for the in-demand field. College will offer first AI course in Fall 2021.
