FLC Professor Receives Prestigious Award
Congratulations to Folsom Lake College Ethnic Studies Professor Dr. Tamara "Tami" Cheshire who has been awarded the 2023 Hayward Award for Excellence in Education by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC). Sponsored annually by the Foundation for California Community Colleges, this award honors community college full-time and part-time faculty who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to their students, college, and profession.
Dr. Cheshire was nominated by the FLC Academic Senate and was selected as one of four award recipients statewide and honored at the California Community Colleges Board of Governors meeting on March 20. The award panel noted, "As a member of the ASCCC and Chancellor's Office Ethnic Studies Taskforce, Dr. Cheshire's work and contributions at the state level have led to the progress in implementing the California Community Colleges Ethnic Studies graduation requirement. Dr. Cheshire is dedicated to serving and empowering students, and 'her efforts to make higher education feasible and accessible advance the CCC mission.' She is a founding member of the Sacramento Native American Higher Education Collaborative (SNAHEC), and co-wrote a proposal to the legislature to fund the Native American Student Support and Success Program (NASSSP)."
